This is the first blog in our Design Feature Series, where we showcase the beautiful projects of our customers! We’ll pick their brains on what products they’ve used to make their dream interior a reality, and why they chose one of the Timba Floors & Boards products.
We spoke to the owners of Laveshlodge, an Instagram account that follows the renovation of a 1970s semi-detached house in County Durham. They are aiming for a modern aesthetic with a traditional twist.

What made you choose this house?

“We bought a 1970s property for the sheer factor of having fun renovating. Renovating to a high modern standard to show that you can take an old, run down property, and turn it into what people sometimes class as ‘something out of a magazine’ or a show home. We knew we had to renovate the house as it was very dated, all the walls were crumbling, it had old burnt paper thin carpets, the light fittings were old wooden fans, and the full house apart from living room and bedrooms had cladding floor to ceiling in every colour you can imagine. It had a huge open fire (which we knew we could have fun with changing to a log burner with a big opening).”

Why did you select Herringbone flooring?

“Because it is an old property, we wanted to keep some classic details when it came to the interiors and styling. We live in a old very small farming village with no shops, just a school and pub, so herringbone flooring for us is the perfect ‘modern’ flooring even though it’s such a traditional aspect found in some old properties if you’re lucky. Herringbone is very trendy at the moment in the interior world and it’s nice when somewhat old fashioned and traditional aspects of interiors come back into fashion. For us, herringbone is classic, timeless, and will always look amazing. It gives the illusion of a longer, bigger, and much more spacious room and helps the room flow.”

At Timba Floor, we have Herringbone flooring both in real wood and in fully waterproof rigid core vinyl (as featured in this journal).

What made you choose Aquacore for your flooring solution?

“We fell in love with the particular shade of flooring we picked as we wanted the perfect middle toned oak, nothing too dark or too light and we hadn’t came across anything which was the perfect middle ground tone until we visited a showroom in Consett and we knew instantly that was the one, not just for our living room but we have decided to do the full property in this flooring so it flows throughout the duration of the house. Chris is a joiner/kitchen fitter who uses Timba Floor products for some of his work and he fell in love with fitting the flooring and quoted ‘one of the easiest floors he had fitted,’ and continues to recommend the flooring to his clients and has fitted it a few times now since renovating our living room.”

Were there any challenges in renovating your new home?

“This is the first room we have completed in our own home, and we can’t wait to see the full house come together. The renovation itself was challenging yet fun, and it’s nice to see something come from what was dust and back to the brick to now a plastered, painted finish with our beautiful flooring which we think is a huge feature in the living room and is actually the first thing people comment on when they see it or visit. The only challenges we faced were living in the renovation, not many people decide to take a full property and strip it back to brick whilst living in it, but we like a challenge and it was SO worth it. Doing basically everything ourselves whilst running a business, working all day, only leaves a few hours on a evening to do your own projects (and weekends) but we made things work.”

How did you find out about Aquacore?

“We actually found out about Aquacore whilst visiting my hometown, Consett, to collect some DIY supplies and a flooring showroom caught my eye. We knew we wanted luxury vinyl flooring, and we were just about to drive out of the industrial estate but on the off chance thought let’s quickly have a look. After 5 minutes I was looking at samples that caught my eye of the flooring on display, we ordered some samples to our home, and the day after they arrived we went back to the showroom and ordered our flooring instantly.

The flooring I will admit was the one choice and decision I was scared to make. Until I found this flooring, it was such a easy and enjoyable process and because we knew what we wanted, being a herringbone muted, middle toned oak, we weren’t overwhelmed by choice, and it fits this house and living room perfectly!

Thank you for giving us our dream flooring.”
